"Metaphor Making:
Your Career, Your Life, Your Way"
Imbedded within our work-life experiences are metaphors that visually set the stage for how we understand and live our lives. Many of these metaphors operate just outside of conscious awareness. Positive change can happen when some of these metaphors are brought into focus and then evaluated with respect to their positive or negative impact. Positive change can happen when we are in a position to make conscious choices about the metaphors we live by. This session will explore how metaphors play a key role in the way in which we portray and live our lives.
Metaphor Making: Your Career, Your Life, Your Way has two sections. The first section is an overview of theoretical foundations and practical guidelines. The second section includes a spectrum of different metaphoric possibilities when doing career work. The metaphors in the second section are not definitive, but rather illustrate how a wide variety of metaphors can be used to conceptualize careers and career development.
